Data published in the\u00a0Demographia International Housing Affordability 2026<\/a>\u00a0report released today shows a grim picture for first home buyers wanting\u00a0to enter the market in Adelaide.\u00a0<\/p>

Since the last report, Adelaide has moved down the affordability ranking to now be the fourth least affordable in the world, moving from sixth place in the\u00a0previous\u00a0report. This now places Adelaide as more unaffordable than Los Angeles,\u00a0London\u00a0and Vancouver.\u00a0<\/p>

This comes as data revealed by the Valuer General just\u00a0this\u00a0week shows metropolitan house prices rising\u00a0in Adelaide\u00a0by over 13% since July.\u00a0<\/p>

Shadow Housing Minister, Josh Teague,\u00a0said this report should be a concern for first home buyers wanting to enter the market.\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cWhat this report shows is the\u00a0 housing market in Adelaide is impossibly unaffordable for first home buyers,\u201d\u00a0Mr Teague said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cAdelaide used to be the most affordable place in the country to buy a house\u00a0\u2013\u00a0now we are more unaffordable than major international cities like London and New York.\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cWhen this report was released in 2022 Adelaide ranked 14th. Now we are the fourth least affordable. Labor\u2019s plan to fix the housing crisis is simply just not working.\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cLabor\u2019s plan has been to push first home buyers, downsizers and now investors all into new builds, creating even more demand in a constrained segment of the housing market,\u201d\u00a0Mr Teague\u00a0 said.\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cThe government has\u00a0benefited\u00a0from record stamp duty revenue windfall to the tune of $1 billion over the last four years –\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0no wonder that they want to see house prices go up. It\u2019s\u00a0the only way they can hide their budget blow-outs.”\u00a0<\/p>

The State Liberals have called for\u00a0a number of\u00a0practical measures to\u00a0help first home buyers enter the market, including:\u00a0<\/p>
