The State Liberals are urging the Malinauskas Labor Government to adopt their State Fuel Security and Resilience Framework, as a fuel price hike looms.\u00a0<\/p>

From this weekend, fuel prices are expected to rise by at least 16 cents per litre as Australia\u2019s fuel excise discount\u00a0comes to an end, adding further pressure to families and primary producers already grappling with rising costs.\u00a0<\/p>

State Liberal Leader Ashton Hurn\u00a0 said the looming increase highlighted the need for practical state-based measures to strengthen fuel security and support the agricultural sector.\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cFrom this weekend, South Australians will once again be paying more every time they fill up, and for farmers who rely on diesel every single day, those extra costs add up fast,\u201d\u00a0Mrs Hurn said.\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cThose higher costs\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0stop at the farm gate – they flow through the supply chain and\u00a0ultimately put\u00a0more pressure on grocery bills for South Australian families.\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cWhile the fuel excise is a\u00a0Federal\u00a0decision, that\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0mean the State Government should simply sit back and do nothing. It should be looking at\u00a0 sensible ways to ease the pressure on families, farmers and strengthen South Australia\u2019s fuel security.\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cThat\u2019s\u00a0exactly why\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0put forward our State Fuel Security and Resilience Framework, including grants and low-interest loans to help farmers install or expand on-farm diesel storage.\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cThese are common-sense measures that will strengthen our state\u2019s resilience, better prepare us for future supply disruptions and give farmers greater confidence at a time when cost pressures continue to bite.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>

Shadow Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development Nicola Centofanti said the state could not afford a\u00a0\u201cwait and see\u201d\u00a0approach.\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cThe fuel security challenge isn\u2019t disappearing overnight,\u201d\u00a0Dr Centofanti said.\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cWithout better planning and visibility, we\u2019ll see more farmers under financial pressure and more regional businesses pushed to the brink.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>

Member for Heysen Josh Teague said when fuel prices rise, businesses wear the cost at every step of the supply chain.\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cWithout targeted support, those costs are passed on to consumers or absorbed by businesses already operating on tight margins,\u201d\u00a0Mr Teague said.\u00a0<\/p>

State Fuel Security and Resilience Framework pillars:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>

  • Governance and transparency:\u00a0Establish\u00a0a dedicated SA Fuel Security Coordinator and expand real-time fuel supply monitoring across the state.\u00a0<\/li>
  • Critical infrastructure protection: Ensure hospitals, SA Water, emergency services,\u00a0ports\u00a0and power stations\u00a0maintain\u00a0at least 7-14 days of on-site diesel reserves.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
    • Strategic diesel buffer: Develop a state strategic diesel reserve over time, with\u00a0an initial\u00a0portion\u00a0secured\u00a0immediately\u00a0using existing private terminal storage.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
      • Agricultural resilience: Grants and low-interest loans to help farmers install or expand compliant on-farm\u00a0 diesel storage.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>
      • Commercial storage expansion: Incentives for\u00a0logistics\u00a0operators, manufacturers, mining\u00a0companies\u00a0and councils to increase fuel storage capacity.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>
