South Australia\u2019s housing crisis has reached a new low,\u00a0with\u00a0the cost of renting a unit\u00a0in Adelaide\u00a0jumping 10% in just\u00a012 months.\u00a0<\/p>

The increase, revealed in today\u2019s quarterly\u00a0Domain Rental Report, is the largest in the nation and\u00a0takes the\u00a0average\u00a0Adelaide\u00a0unit rent\u00a0to $550 per\u00a0 week.\u00a0<\/p>

State Liberal Leader\u00a0Ashton Hurn said\u00a0the double-digit increase is\u00a0another\u00a0blow for South Australians already struggling through a cost-of-living crisis.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cA family renting the average unit will now be paying $2600 more in rent per year than they were a year ago,\u201d\u00a0Mrs Hurn said.\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cSouth Australia has always been considered an affordable place to live, work and raise a family, but\u00a0sadly we are losing that reputation.\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cThis price hike comes as families grapple with the skyrocketing cost of fuel and groceries\u00a0\u2013\u00a0it’s\u00a0no\u00a0 wonder South Australians are struggling more than ever before.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>

The\u00a0report also revealed that South Australia\u2019s\u00a0average house rent has risen 2.4 per cent over the past quarter to a record $640 per week.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

Meanwhile, the rental\u00a0vacancy rate\u00a0is\u00a0one of the lowest in the nation at\u00a00.4%\u00a0and\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0feared the market will\u00a0tighten even further if\u00a0the Federal Labor Government\u00a0proceeds with plans\u00a0to\u00a0reduce the Capital Gains Tax discount for landlords.\u00a0<\/p>

Shadow\u00a0Minister for Housing Josh Teague\u00a0said\u00a0Labor Governments state and federal have failed\u00a0at every turn when it\u00a0 comes to\u00a0fixing the housing\u00a0crisis.\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cThe government\u2019s plan to address the state\u2019s housing supply issue\u00a0has been\u00a0to\u00a0open up more land, but\u00a0not a single home has been built in any of those locations,\u201d\u00a0Mr Teague said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cThe\u00a0Housing Minister\u00a0needs to get on the phone with his\u00a0federal counterpart to ensure that\u00a0no changes are made to the Capital Gains Tax system.\u00a0<\/p>
