New shadow cabinet gets to work
The State Liberals will make a fresh start with a united and hard-working shadow cabinet that will deliver a strong, stable and credible alternative government.
The team of 11 shadow ministers brings together experience from across metropolitan and regional communities and will have a strong focus on supercharging the economy and making the state more affordable.
Leader, Ashton Hurn, will take a hands-on approach to helping position South Australia for the opportunities of the AUKUS program by taking on the Defence and Space portfolio.
Mrs Hurn, who will also take responsibility for Trade, Industry and Investment, said she will continue to roll up her sleeves and help her team get to work.
“We will not be sitting behind desks on North Terrace. We will be out in communities, listening to South Australians and focused on delivering practical solutions,” Mrs Hurn said.
“Voters have sent us a clear message that we need to be better, and we’ll keep stepping up.”
Jack Batty takes on Health and Wellbeing, with a focus on restoring confidence in a system under pressure, while Heidi Girolamo will lead Education, Skills and Training.
Ben Hood will retain Treasury, Small and Family Business, and Public Sector and Industrial Relations, while also taking on Energy and Mining.
Deputy Leader Josh Teague will continue as Shadow Attorney General and Shadow Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, while also taking on Housing.
Laura Henderson joins the Shadow Ministry for the first time as Shadow Minister for Child Protection and Shadow Minister for the prevention of Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence.
Mrs Hurn said the Liberal team under her leadership is united, focused and ready to serve.
“My team is united and determined, and we will be working every day to earn the trust of South Australians and demonstrate we are ready to govern,” Mrs Hurn said.
“We are focused on the basics, supporting families, strengthening communities and backing businesses so our state can grow and succeed.”
